ST. LOUIS, MAY 20, 2004 - First graders and fifth graders at Blevins
Elementary welcome home the father of two of their students who is
returning from service in Iraq. Yellow ribbons lined the school of
Blevins Elementary as Major Will Blaylock returns from Iraq to meet with
his children and their friends. Blaylock arrived at the school at 2:45 p.m.
Students lined the entrance of the elementary school and give this
soldier a Rockwood welcome home. Blaylock left in March 2003 to serve
his country in Iraq as a member of the Missouri Army National Guard
1138th Engineer Battalion. The unit has been in Baghdad developing a
database of mines and explosives in the Iraqi Territory.
Blaylock is also a Rockwood employee. When not serving in the
Reserves, Blaylock is the coordinator of Instructional Technology for
the district. Throughout the year, students from Blevins and other
Rockwood schools have kept in contact with Blaylock and the members of
his battalion by sending care packages, cards and pictures.
