"Helping Hands"

Volunteers abound at Crown Center for Senior Living.

One group of residents has been of significant help to other local nonprofits and educational institutions, such as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Lutheran Family& Children's Services, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Helping with numerous mass mailings, stuffing gift bags, collating papers, and inserting information for outreach projects, Mary Aurich, Betty Garrett, Mae Goode, Antonia Hayes, Mui Chung Leong,Ye Hi Li, Yau Hing Lo, Iva Mahr, Virginia Pentecost, Hsu Su Ai Sheng, Lee Du Wang, and Chiu Eng Zhao are making a difference.

When they work, these ladies don't take breaks and won't even stop for lunch until the project is complete. As for motivation, Aurich, Goode, and Garrett had this to say: "We like to volunteer because it's a good way to keep busy and get out of the apartment. It keeps your brain going and it's wonderful to help anybody, but especially children." Linda D'Agrosa, Social Services Coordinator, acts as liaison between these Crown Center residents and organizations in need of a steady and very willing stream of volunteers.
