What Hurricane Katrina Victims and Evacuees Need To Know

If you are a hurricane victim or an evacuee from one of the affected Hurricane Katrina communities, the U.S. Department of Labor offers income support for you through temporary jobs, unemployment insurance, and disaster unemployment assistance. Call 1-866-4-USA-DOL (1-866-487-2365) for full information.

Workers do not have to return home to file a claim for unemployment assistance. Calling the U.S. Labor Department's toll free number (1-866-4-USA-DOL/1-866-487-2365) anytime day or night will provide information directing you to a local One-Stop Center or a site near you to take your claim.

The department has a toll-free number -- 1-866-4-USA-DOL (1-866-487-2365) -- and a Web site, www.dol.gov (click on Department of Labor's Hurricane Recovery Assistance Page), both of which direct Hurricane Katrina victims to information about temporary jobs and unemployment assistance to help them as they recover from the storm's devastating effects.
