Dear Friend/Colleague,
As some of you may know, I am originally from New Orleans. Although
I have been away for many years, New Orleans is still the place
I call home. Unfortunately, in the wake of hurricane Katrina and
the ensuing devastation of my beloved city due to the levee breaches,
over 50 members of my parental immediate family (aunts, uncles,
and first cousins) have been displaced, half of whom are under
the age of 11. No longer do they have a place to call home. “Home?has
temporarily become Dallas, San Antonio, Baton Rouge, St. Louis,
and Atlanta. While some eagerly await the opportunity to return
home to New Orleans, others have been devastated by the images
and their rescue experiences and, have decided not to return.
Five members are with us in St. Louis now and we are expecting
fourteen more over the next weeks.
As they begin to rebuild their lives, they are in dire need of
the essentials of day-to-day living, as well as any information
about resources available for temporary and long-term housing,
transportation, employment, and anything else you can think of,
as they have to start over. I have provided a list of items below,
but please know that needs are not limited to those listed. More
than anything, we ask for your prayers. And, we truly appreciate
all who have contributed to the many and diverse efforts to aid
those in need.
My family has lost a lot, but thankfully we did not lose each
other. Attached you will find a list of needed items, thank you
in advance for your generosity and support.
If you can assist, please get in touch with Anisha at 314-984-7384
or email her at amorrell@stlcc.edu and thank you for your caring....
