| The
Museum of Transportation, which houses "one of the largest
and best collections of transportation vehicles in the world"
according to the Smithsonian Institution, will be hosting an "Open
House" weekend on October 22 and 23, 2005. The Museum is located
at 3015 Barrett Station Road in west St. Louis County. Museum hours
are from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Saturday and from 11:00 AM to
4:00 PM on Sunday. The Museum of Transportation has over seventy
locomotives, which is the most complete collection of American rail
power in the world, and the Museum's collection of automobiles,
busses, streetcars, aircraft, horse-drawn vehicles and riverboat
material reflects the ever-changing nature of transportation. A
walk through the Museum is a walk through history.
For a fee of $2.50 per person per day visitors get unlimited
rides aboard the Museum's new miniature Museum Line Railroad and
vintage trolleys. Powering the miniature train is a detailed 24
inch scale replica of the famous 1863 C.P. Huntington steam locomotive
and the ride incorporates a 1923 Frisco locomotive turntable as
a bridge along the route. This turntable is located in a recreated
pit which gives Museum visitors some sense of its massive size
and original function.
Please join us October 22 and 23 and see what is new at the Museum
of Transportation. Admission for this two-day event is FREE!!!
