| (COLUMBIA,
Mo.) - This fall, countless urban dwellers will travel to rural
destinations to pick pumpkins, enjoy hayrides and amble through
corn mazes as a relaxing break from city life. Many small-farm operators
recognize these opportunities as agritourism - a viable way to supplement
their homegrown products.
Farmers interested in pursuing their own agritourism opportunities
are invited to attend the 13th National Small Farm Trade Show,
Nov. 3-5 on Columbia's Boone County Fairgrounds. As the largest
annual small farm conference and trade show in the United States,
last year's show drew more than 4,400 attendees and more than
150 exhibitors.
In addition to a full afternoon workshop on Nov. 4 focused on
agritourism, farmers are invited to attend an agritourism reception
immediately following the workshop, sponsored by AgriMissouri(TM),
the Missouri Travel Council, the Missouri Division of Tourism
and the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The reception will feature light appetizers of Missouri-grown
products and the opportunity to network with other successful
AgriMissouri members. Representatives from AgriMissouri and the
Missouri Travel Council will be on hand to talk about the benefits
of membership in both organizations, and attendees will have the
chance to win free joint membership in the AgriMissouri program
and in Missouri Travel Council.
AgriMissouri's objective is to promote products grown, raised
