The Visiting East Asian Professional (VEAP) Program at Washington
University in St. Louis welcomes to campus Mr. Domingo Lim, also
known as Ruo Fei. Mr. Lim is an accomplished calligrapher who
specializes in double-handed calligraphy. That is, he can paint
two lines of text in mirror image or both identical with his two
hands simultaneously. Born in 1939 in the Philippines, Mr. Lim
moved to China when he was eight years old. He went to middle
school in Fujian and high school in Jimei. He learned his art
during the decade-long Cultural Revolution during which time he
was unable to leave Shanghai. Over the past 60 years Mr. Lim has
striven to master the art of calligraphy and has dedicated his
life to sharing the art with others.
Mr. Lim arrived in St. Louis on October 30 and departs November
19. During his three weeks in St. Louis Mr. Lim is teaching a
short-course on calligraphy through University College on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. On November 11 he will conduct a calligraphy demonstration
for Art students and a public demonstration at 6pm in Whitaker
Hall Auditorium.
