University of Missouri President Elson S. Floyd announced today
that he has appointed Dr. Stephen W. Lehmkuhle to serve as interim
chancellor of the UM-Kansas City campus. Dr. Lehmkuhle currently
serves as University of Missouri Senior Vice President for Academic
Affairs.
Dr. Lehmkuhle will begin his new duties May 2 and will serve
in the capacity of interim chancellor until the completion of
the UMKC chancellor search.
"Dr. Lehmkuhle's vast experience as a teacher, researcher
and administrator make him an ideal choice to lead our Kansas
City campus while we complete our search for a permanent chancellor,"
Dr. Floyd said.
Dr. Lehmkuhle joined the University of Missouri in 1996 as a
faculty fellow in the Office of the Vice President for Academic
affairs. He became Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs
in 1998 and was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs
in 1998. In 2004, he was appointed Senior Vice President for Academic
Affairs.
"The University of Missouri-Kansas City is a unique and
vibrant campus that has made tremendous progress in its engagement
with the surrounding community," Dr. Lehmkuhle said. "I
am very happy to accept the interim chancellorship and look forward
to working with its faculty, students, staff, alumni and community."
Lehmkuhle earned a bachelor's in Psychology from Wright State
University in 1973 and his Doctorate in Experimental Psychology
from Vanderbilt University in 1977. He held a postdoctoral fellowship
in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Virginia beginning
in 1977. He later became an assistant professor of psychology
at Brown University in 1979. He became an associate professor
in the Department of Psychology at the University of Missouri-St.
Louis in 1985 and a full professor at the University of Missouri-St.
Louis in 1994.
Dr. Lehmkuhle's compensation will not change as a result of the
appointment. His current annual compensation is $191,000.
