Chinese Association Announces "China Night" Performance
COLUMBIA, Mo.-Students at the
University of Missouri, Stephens College and Columbia
area high schools have been practicing since fall for
China Night, a performance designed to showcase
traditional Chinese dance and music.
"Everyone has been working very
hard," said Peng Zhuang, president of the Friendship
Association of Chinese Students and Scholars (FACSS),
the MU organization sponsoring the event. "The dancers
practiced throughout winter break, and they're working
harder than ever now. It's going to be a great
performance."
China Night will feature seven
traditional Chinese dances and a Chinese band from
Kansas City. The dancers are primarily international
students from China and have been working with director
and choreographer Jimmy (Jianmin) Hao, a Chinese native
and art professor at Stephens College.
"The dances will be Chinese classical
dances and Chinese folk dances," Hao said. "It's a
colorful program which will present the rich traditions
of Chinese culture and art."
China Night will be February 19 at 6
p.m. in Jesse Auditorium. The event is free and open to
the public, but tickets are required for admission.
Tickets will be distributed February
5 and 6 in front of MU's Memorial Union, and after
February 1 at Mu's International Center, the House of
Chow, Great Wall Chinese Buffet and Hong Kong
Restaurant. You may also e-mail ylp33@mizzou.edu for
