University of Missouri-Columbia experienced a special China Night

By SCANews

On February 19, 2006, the University of Missouri-Columbia experienced a special Chinese event-the 2nd China Night, which was organized by the Friendship Association of Chinese Students and Scholars (FACSS) of the University. The China Night consisted of 13 performances, including Chinese traditional dances, songs, instruments, and Kong Fu. Most of the performers are Chinese students from University of Missouri-Columbia; the rest of them are from local high school Chinese students and residents. Compared to the first China Night in 2004, the second China Night had a bigger impact on the community. More than 1,500 audiences, including university students, staff, professors, Columbia residents, and people from other cities attended the event. Dr. Handy William, the Vice Provost for International Programs & Faculty Development and other officers of University of Missouri-Columbia spent the night with all other audiences.

In addition to the performances, there was an exhibition of Chinese arts, crafts, and calligraphy in the lobby to Jesse Auditorium. One of the event managers shared the purpose of the event with a journalist: to create an opportunity for the community to learn about Chinese culture and Chinese people.

The event received overwhelmingly positive comments from the attendees and many of them expressed strong interests in a 3rd and even 4th China Night.
