Olive Business Association May Meeting

By Willa Boisseau, SCANews Senior Editor

In an early morning meeting on May 9, 2006, members of the Olive Business Association talked about the beginnings of a long-term development of the University City commercial areas. Olive and Delmar are the centers of business, and they will be made more attractive to shoppers, customers and merchants.

Part of a proposal for a grant to finance plans and activities of the City's development efforts was read and discussed. Everyone present agreed to approve the proposal, with the provision that the OBA should provide input into all parts of the development process. Members who do not come to meetings should not expect to be included in input the OBA provides.

Lynn Rossel reported on progress of a city commission to undertake a sales tax increase to finance business area development.

Michelle Racanelli told about "Savor U. City," the festival scheduled for the end of May in Heman Park. She said 32 booths have been reserved to present foods and products from U. City restaurants and shops. Besides good food, there will be music and fun activities in the park.

Bart Byers said the City would like to create city-wide "hot spots" for wireless communications, including those for portable computers.

The next meeting of the OBA will be June 13 at 6:00 P.M., the regular time, in Heman Park Community Center. Be sure to come.
