CLAYTON, Mo. - The purchase of a home is the biggest financial decision many families will make. Now first-time home buyers can learn how to get the most out of their home-buying dollars through a course offered by University of Missouri Extension.
The H.O.M.E. (Home Ownership Made Easier) course will be offered 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, June 15 and 22 at the St. Charles County University of Missouri Extension Office, 260 Brown Rd., St. Peters.
The course also will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, September 14 and 21 at the St. Louis County University of Missouri Extension Office, 121 S. Meramec, Suite 1012, Clayton.
Topics include how much house can you afford, finding a home to meet your needs, mortgage basics, negotiating the purchase, affordable loan products, home maintenance and repairs, special programs, and more.
Participants will complete worksheets to help them compare the cost of owning a home vs. renting, and how much house they can afford. They will receive a Home Buyers' Guide and information on how to apply for loans and down-payment assistance programs. This program qualifies for the education component in conjunction with many down-payment assistance programs.
