Washington, DC - Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) congratulated Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA-08), the first-ever female Speaker of the House of Representatives.

"I congratulate Nancy Pelosi and her new role as the first woman speaker of the United States of Representatives," said Rep. Michael Honda, Chair of CAPAC. "Speaker Pelosi's strength and determination were critical in leading the Democratic Caucus. I look forward to working with her to implement the New Direction Agenda reflective of the priorities of the American peoples and our Asian and Pacific Islander American communities."

"We are honored to have Nancy Pelosi sworn in on this historic day as the Speaker of the House of Representatives," said Rep. Eni Faleomavaega (AS), Vice-Chair of CAPAC. "She has shown tremendous leadership over the past several years as the House Minority Leader and I look forward to working with her in her new role as the Speaker of the House to improve the lives of the members of the APIA community."

"I have high expectations for the leadership that Speaker Nancy Pelosi will bring to the 110th Congress," said Rep. Madeleine Bordallo (GU), Secretary of CAPAC. "She is a supporter of our Asian-Pacific American communities and she shares our priorities. As the Chair of the Healthcare Task Force of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, I look forward to working with our Caucus and Congressional leadership to improve health care for minority communities."

"Nancy Pelosi has done more than just talk about the concerns of Asian-Pacific Americans," said Rep. Neil Abercrombie (HI-01). "She has a long record of working - and fighting when necessary - to see that all people are treated with the fairness they deserve and the dignity they've earned, from the Filipino veterans who fought for this country in World War II to the families who are kept apart by cruel immigration policies. As Speaker of the House, she'll be able to make an even bigger difference."

"Nancy Pelosi has earned her place in history," said Rep. Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Assistant to the Speaker. "But what is most inspiring and momentous is believing in the promise and future of America under Speaker Pelosi."

"I congratulate Nancy Pelosi on becoming the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives," said Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05). "While she is the first woman Speaker, she is also the first speaker from California, making this is an even more momentous occasion. She has done an amazing job leading the Democratic Caucus and I know she will continue to excel as she now leads the entire House. Nancy Pelosi knows the priorities of the American people and she knows what's important to them. Under her leadership, Congress will again do the work of the American people and in doing so Speaker Pelosi will restore dignity and civility to this hallowed institution."

"Ms. Pelosi has been a friend and supporter of Asian Pacific Americans and the issues that affect the APA community," said Rep. David Wu (OR-01). "I look forward to working with her and the entire Democratic leadership to advance the goals set forth by CAPAC."
