University City Ochs Senior Center hosts annual March for Meals

Everyone is invited to participate in March for Meals, a walk-a-thon to stamp out senior hunger. The 1.5 mile march begins at 10am, Wednesday, March 21 at 10am Ochs Senior Center, located within Heman Park Community Center (975 Pennsylvania).

Nutritional hot meals are delivered year-round to area elderly recovering from illness, surgery or suffering from a disability. Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAA) supports the Meals on Wheels program. In the last fiscal year MEAA provided 23,295 meals in University City, Richmond Heights, Maplewood, Brentwood, Pagedale, Venita Park, Hanley Hills and Wellston communities.

Area businesses and the community can participate by sponsoring a walker ($100), volunteering to walk or making a donation. "Through March for Meals, you can help Ochs Senior Center raise awareness of the crisis of hunger among our community’s most fragile, the elderly," said Renita Lamkin, Senior Center Administrator.

March for Meals proceeds will be used to directly support the home-delivered meals program at the Ochs Senior Center. Walkers will travel along Olive, Midland and Vernon to complete 1.5 miles. University City Mayor Joe Adams will participate by delivering a few meals to area residents in the afternoon.

To register, sponsor a volunteer or make a donation contact Renita Lamkin at 314.721.2722 or email ochsctr@sbcglobal.net.
