We Clean Up Nice:
Art Exhibit from the Graduates of MU Art Department

Graduating seniors of the University of Missouri-Columbia's Art Department are stepping out of their studios and "cleaning up" to put on a senior art exhibition. Seventy-six pieces of works by twenty-six graduating artists is being displayed at the George Caleb Bingham Gallery from now to April 26, 2007.

Around MU campus, fine art students often stand out in their paint stained clothes or clay covered shoes. This premise inspired the title of the show, We Clean Up Nice, which is the culminating event for students graduating with their BA or BFA in studio art. This is a wonderful chance for students to display their artistic talent, while receiving input from the community. "We are really excited to show our work and would love for the community to see the art that we have worked so hard on for the last four years," said one of the featured artists, Callie Hansen.

This art exhibition is one of the projects that the capstone class Senior Seminar in Art presents, and will feature a wide array of work and media such as drawing, ceramics, fibers, graphic design, painting, photography and sculpture. "It has been eye-opening to meet fellow artists from different disciplines here at MU. As undergraduates we get involved in our own fields and a painter may not know what a graphic design student is doing. The senior show brings all the disciplines together," said Stephanie Hunter, a drawing student.

The University's Art Department strives to train students in technical and conceptual levels that will enable graduates to pursue a career in the creative market. MU Associate Professor of Art Lampo Leong, who is teaching the Senior Seminar class this semester, says "This exhibition is the best opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned at MU and a very important step for students to become fully engaged artist members in the art community."

Artists featured in this exhibition include Nathaniel Blakenship, Bee Brookes, Jacob Bruton, Sara Capra, Su Eun Chung, Christopher Davies, Angie Ellegood, Rhondalyn Goss, Callie Hansen, Stephanie Hunter, Brandon Jackson, Michael Keener, Lauren Ketchum, Anne Lapping, Tim Mitchell, Justin Noelke, Annie North, Wendy Offield, Cassidy Parker, Annie Robertson, Aubrey Rowden, Michelle Singley, Amy Webster, Lauren Winchester, Rebecca Wylie, and Maria Young.
