Modern Brushwork: International Brush Painting Exhibition is an exhibition curated by University of Missouri-Columbia Art Professor Lampo Leong. It features works from some of the most promising young artists in Taiwan, South Korea, China and the United States. Modern Brushwork focuses on works done or inspired by the four thousand years of brush painting and calligraphy traditions in Asia with special media such as ink, watercolor, and rice-paper. These works reflected the influence of Modern Western painting movements such as the Abstract Expressionism and the Post-modernism, yet captured the Asian sensibility and life experience of the modern age. Daoism, Buddhism and Confucianism are still the major philosophies and religious believes in Asian countries, which remain the main spiritual contents of most of the works.

Artists invited for this exhibition are Kun-Te Chen, Dai-Le Cheng, Hsien-Chao Hung, Yi-Cheng Hu, Lian-Don Juang, Yen-Huang Kuo, Chong-Chong Lee, Hsi-Yue Lee, Jen-Ming Lee, and Kung-Jui Wu from Taiwan; Hee-Young Kim, Young-Whan Kim, and Keun-Woo Lee from South Korea; Chen Shen, and Xue Ye from China; and one of Lampo Leong's recent painting is being displayed as well.

This exhibition has been shown in New York, New Jessie and is now on display in the Brady Gallery at the University of Missouri-Columbia campus (203 Brady Commons) from April 5 to 30, 2007. Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday, 12noon to 9pm, and Friday & Saturday from 12noon to 6pm. A public reception will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2007, from 5-7pm. This exhibition is sponsored by MU's MSA/GPC Craft Studio, Asian Affairs Center and the Department of Art. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
