由聖路易到上海 音樂詩文萬里相傳

【時報訊】由聖路易藝術委員會(Regional Arts Commission)，美商IBM公司及聖路易時報共同贊助支持由聖市打擊樂音樂家Rich O'Donnell及太極藝術家Anna Lum(曾祖康)領銜之聖路易新音樂圓「New Music Circle」中國親善之旅，於六月十八日自聖市起程，為期一個月，將訪問中國大陸上海、成都、重慶等地大專院校作五場親善音樂演出。首場音樂會於六月二十日在上海華東師範大學(East China Normal University)演出，時報本期特刊載音樂會現場相片及華東師範大學簡介，音樂詩文萬里相傳，「新音樂圓」為聖市和中國大陸搭建起一座音樂詩文之橋。
聖路易新音樂圓(New Music Circle)係由太極名師曾祖康(Anna Lum)於1959年成立，是一個非營利文化組織，Anna Lum的夫婿，目前已自聖路易交響樂樂團首席打擊樂退休之Rich O'Donnell擔任指揮，Anna Lum擔任財務。新音樂圓獲得聖路易藝術委員會，密蘇里州藝術協會和聖路易藝術教育委員會之贊助，多年來「新音樂圓」結合了美國音樂界人士，為音樂藝術創作演出共同努力。
2007年聖路易「新音樂圓」中國大陸親善訪問之行演出人員為打擊樂Rich O'Donnell，英詩朗誦Anna Lum (曾祖康)和鋼琴演奏Dennan Maroney。Rich O'Donnell於1959年加入聖路易交響樂團，2002年以首席打擊樂退休，目前為聖路易打擊四重奏指揮，同時為作曲及電影、劇作家，他還親自製作各式傳統和標準之打擊樂器。鋼琴家Denman Maroney1971年畢業於Williams學院，1974年獲得私立加州藝術學院MFA學位，為著名鋼琴家和作曲家。
華裔Anna Lum曾祖康六歲移民到美國，是聖市著名的太極老師及英詩作家，同時積極融入參與社區公益活動和文化藝術組織，將中華文化介紹予美國社區大眾，2002年榮獲聖路易傑出婦女成就獎。她的父親為曾任何應欽將軍秘書，於1945年草擬抗戰勝利國民政府接管南京，接受日本投降受降書歷史文獻之曾景昌先生。
六月二十日在華東師範大學音樂會上，Rich O'Donnel和Denman Maroney分別打擊樂獨奏，鋼琴獨奏及打擊、鋼琴合奏，Anna Lum則作詩文朗誦，她的英文詩在行前已由聖路易名作家裘小龍翻譯成中文。音樂會後並和現場同學們交流，進行30分鐘之問答時間。
「新音樂圓」2007年中國大陸親善訪問演出一行將於7月17日結束行程返回聖路易。
New Music Circle Goodwill Concert Tour of Rich O'Donnell and Denman Maroney in China
The first of five concerts on this tour took place at East China Normal University, Shanghai on June 20, 2007. New Music Circle, a 501(c)(3) corporation is the producer of this tour. New Music Circle, founded in St. Louis, is the oldest experimental music group in the USA, turning 50 in 2009. (Rich O'Donnell has been the music director of NMC for close to 30 years, and he just retired from that position. I am still the treasurer). New Music Circle is generously funded by Regional Arts Commission, a St. Louis City Commission whose resources are 1/2% of the hotel tax in St. Louis city. New Music Circle is also funded by the Missouri Arts Council and the Arts and Education Council of Greater St. Louis.
The China tour (June 18-July 17) features Rich O'Donnell (principal percussion with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for 43 years, retired), now a seesaw drummer playing his own compositions, and Denman Maroney, hyperpianist from New York, and Anna Lum will have a bit part performing her poetry in English and Chinese (translated by Qiu Xiaolong). Student response at concert was enthusiastic. Concert was followed by lively discussion and questions from an audience who had never been exposed to the experimental and innovative western music.
