My name is Andrew Liu. I am a senior at Parkway Central High School. I was born in Wuhan, China in November of 1989. I moved to Beijing two months later and lived there for eight years before I came to St. Louis in 1998.

I started going to St. Louis Modern Chinese School in 1999. While taking Chinese classes there, I also took a lot of elective classes, including Math, Waist-Drumming, Kung Fu, and Lion Dance. Since then, I participated in a lot of community activities. Such as the annual Chinese Culture Days, St. Louis International Culture Festival Day, St. Louis Library Chinese Culture Connections, St. Louis City Museum Circus Day, US International Martial Arts Team Trials Opening Ceremony, just to name a few.

I entered Parkway Central Middle School where I first developed a strong interest in mathematical competitions. Events accelerated starting in the summer of 2004 after I represented Missouri in a 4-person team in the National Math Counts Competition. In high school, academics were not the only things I pursued. I completed 4 years of Varsity Swimming in Parkway Central High School, a 2-time conference finalist. I volunteered for over 100 hours at St. Luke’s Hospital. I won the Federation Piano Competition and honorable mention in Ragtime Competition; I took Honorable Mention at the 2006 MMTA Senior Piano for piano duet. In 2005, I joined a research lab at Washington University for 1.5 years working on the malarial protease SERA 4.

I received a perfect score on AMC10 and qualified for USAMO in 2006; I am a semi-finalist in the 2007 USABO; Intel Science Talent Search Semi Finalist in 2008. I received an AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Semi Finalist, Princeton University Book Award, and the President’s Volunteer Service Award Silver Medal in 2006.Last but not least, I am the president of Mu Alpha Theta.
