FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY TO FEATURE INAUGURAL SCHOLAR/ARTIST EXHIBITION AT GALLERY

Saint Louis, MO - The paintings of Fontbonne University art professor Victor Wang will be on display April 1 - 11 in the university's gallery. The exhibit, titled "Poetry of a Sunflower," will feature an opening reception April 4 from 6 - 8 p.m. The public is invited to both the exhibit and the reception.

Wang is the recipient of the university's first Scholar/Artist Award, gvien annually to one faculty member. The award highlights the work of current full-time Fontbonne faculty members who have distinguished themselves in the areas of scholarly or artistic achievement.

Wang's large-scale oil paintings are in a classic Western style, with heavy dramatic brushstrokes that create texture reminiscent of Rodin sculptures - known for deeply pocketed surfaces. Both American Art Collector and American Artist magazines have featured him on their covers.

"Victor's paintings are completely unique and original. I have never seen another artist that has created what Victor is doing," says Steven Diamant, president of Arcadia Fine Arts Gallery in New York City, who represents Wang.

Wang has taught at Fontbonne since 1990. He received a bachelor's in fine arts from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in China and a master's in fine arts from Fontbonne. Read more about this interesting artist and see his work at www.fontbonne.edu/victorwang.

        The Fontbonne Gallery hours are: Mon. - Thurs., 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Tues., 9:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Fri., 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; and Sat., 12 - 4 p.m. For more information, call 314-889-1431.

Fontbonne University is a Catholic coeducational institution of higher education offering liberal arts, professional and adult programs. Fontbonne was founded in 1923 and is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
