 DETAILS

"Contemporary Chinese Painting from the Harbin Art School" will feature work by four artists associated with the Harbin Normal University in China. The university is known for its arts education, quality faculty and advanced facilities.

The paintings at the exhibit have been created using the Chinese style guo hua, meaning "national" or "native painting." Guo hua involves using essentially the same techniques as calligraphy and is done with a brush dipped in black or colored ink.

The featured artists include Wang Long, Gao Huimin, Gang Li and Lu Yu Shun.

Long earned a master's degree in art in 2002 from Harbin Normal University where he studied in the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting. He is well known for his research articles, which have been published in many art journals and magazines. His work has been exhibited around the world and won many awards in art competitions in China.

Huimin is the current vice director of the Art College at Harbin Normal University. He earned his reputation as a nationally known art expert and his works are sought after by art collectors worldwide. Recent solo exhibitions of Huimin's work have been held at the China Art Gallery in Beijing, the Nagasaki Art Gallery of Japan and the Culture Relic Museum in Singapore.

Li earned a master's degree in art education from Harbin Normal University. He is the vice director of the Department of Art Education at Harbin Normal University. He currently is studying at the Lu Yu Shun Painting Studio of the China National Art Institute.

Shun is the vice director of the National Institute of Chinese Painting and the vice principal of Harbin Normal University. His work is known for its mix Western style and guo hua. Shun has been selected five times to exhibit his artwork in the Chinese National Art Exhibition, which is held every four years.
