【時報訊】由聖路易華盛頓大學生物醫學工程系系主任殷起彭教授擔任總召集人之全美生物醫學工程協會(The Biomedical Engineering Society BMES)2008年秋季年會，10月2日至4日，在聖市Renaissane大旅館舉行，來自全世界近二千位生物醫學工程界專家學者及學生代表與會，聖路易市市長Francis Slay親臨大會開幕式致詞歡迎生醫工程界菁英群繫聖路易以科技呈現，展示及學術交流方式，為提昇21世紀人類健康作出重大貢獻。
擔任此次年度秋會總召集人之殷起彭教授曾任全美生物醫學工程協會會長，為麻省理工學院學士、碩士，1970年獲得聖地牙哥加州大學生物工程博士學位，1973年取得醫學博士學位，1978年至1997年任職於約翰．霍普斯金大學(Johns Hopkins University)醫學院，研究領域為細胞組織，細胞工程及血液動力學，1997年殷起彭教授應聘來到聖路易華盛頓大學，創辦生物醫學工程系並擔任系主任迄今。
華大生物醫學工程系在這次會議中扮演重要角色，除系主任殷起彭教授擔任總召集人之外，該系之邵金雨教授則擔任研討會共同主席，主持為期三天之學術專業研討會，就各項議題展開會議。華大生醫工程系與全美和世界各名校及生醫工程界有著良好互動合作之基礎，引進最新醫技工程科學，以能認識、分析、進而治療影響人類健康之疾病，包括癌症、心臟和血液循環疾病。
華大生醫工程研究範圍可分為(1)生物電子工程，專研人體電子電力，尤其是心臟與腦部組織電波(2)細胞組織工程，注重細胞控制、修復和移植，(3)分子工程，研究單分子及蛋白質各項醫學應用，(4)影像工程，將最新影像科技和方法應用在目前各種生物醫學工程研究及臨床實驗和治療等。
全美生物醫學工程協會成立於1968年2月1日，它結合了全美及世界生物醫學工程菁英，以領導生物醫學工程科技，促進人類醫學創新福祉，提昇生物醫學工程教育水準，應用生物醫學工程科技於人類經濟健康為宗旨，目前全世界會員超過3千5百人，都是生物工程界之領導及決策人士。殷起彭教授及獲有美國最負聲望之四大國家科學院院士頭銜之加州大學聖地牙哥分校教授錢煦均曾任生物醫學工程協會會長。錢煦教授夫婦也參加了這次在聖路易召開的研究會議。
在聖市舉行之2008年秋會共有超過600個之口頭論文報告，1000個科學論文展示及多場學術研討會議，成果豐碩，在大會會議開始前，總召集人殷起彭教授安排45位前來與會之全美及世界各大學生物醫學工程系系主任，參觀華大生物醫學工程系系館及教學設施，並在Whitaker廳舉行晚宴。The Biomedical Engineering Society 2008 Annual Fall Meeting Held at St. Louis Renaissance Grand Hotel
The 2008 annual fall meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society, the lead society for biomedical engineering and bioengineering in the United States was just held at the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis from October 1-4. This meeting brought together more than 1900 biomedical engineering faculty and students from around the country, some foreign countries as well as some BME-related companies for 3 days of scientific presentations, exhibits and social events.
Frank Yin, chair of the BME department at Washington University was the overall meeting chairman and Jin-Yu Shao, also of Washington University, co-chaired the program committee. Mayor Francis Slay welcomed the attendees at the opening ceremony on the morning of the vice-presidential debate. The feedback from nearly all attendees was that this was a tremendously successful meeting, not only from the standpoint of outstanding science, but also for showcasing St. Louis to the rest of the world.
Prior to the main meeting, Dr. Yin hosted forty five Biomedical Engineering Chairmen from around the country for their annul meeting, followed by a tour and dinner at Whitaker Hall-The Biomedical Engineering Building at Washington University.
