        "The Chinese Community in St. Louis at the Turn-of-the-Century" by Dr. Huping Ling

        Dr. Huping Ling, Professor of History at Truman States University, is invited to give a lecture on "The Chinese Community in St. Louis at the Turn-of-the-Century" by the Missouri Department of Natural Resource in its "Joplin’s St. Louis" series on Jan. 25, 2009. The lecture starts at 2pm at 2658A Delmar, Scott Joplin House State Historic Site (314-340-5790), followed by live performance of traditional Chinese music by professional Chinese musician Ms. Li Ye. Admission is free to general public.

        A renowned scholar on Asian American studies and a prize-winning author, Ling has authored/edited ten books in the field, including Chinese St. Louis: From Enclave to Cultural Community (2004), Chinese in St. Louis, 1857-2007 (2007), Voices of the Heart: Asian American Women on Immigration, Work, and Family (2007), and Emerging Voices: Experiences of Underrepresented Asian Americans (2008). She also serves as Executive Editor of The Journal of Asian American Studies.
