18th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration: Year of the Ox

        February 6, 2009, Friday6:00-10:00 PM

The World Affairs Council of St. Louis is excited to announce its 18th annual Chinese New Year Celebration; the council’s only fundraiser. The event will be held from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009, at the Mandarin House. Event proceeds underwrite the council’s free international and cultural programs for students and people of all ages. For the council to achieve its community outreach goals, we need to secure at least 25 sponsored tables. We know from repeat guests that once you attend, you’ll want to come again because the celebration is an exceptionally bright spot at a time when St. Louis weather can be drab and dull.

Three categories of table sponsorship are available (each table seats 10 people):Platinum - $2,500Gold - $2,000Silver - $1,500(Note: All but $500 of each table sponsorship is tax-deductible)

        Individual tickets are $100 each

The special evening features a cocktail hour, a seven-course Chinese banquet with wine, Chinese entertainment, a raffle, and both a silent and an oral auction of exceptional items.

We also welcome your contributions for the raffle and auctions. Examples of items that sell well include tickets for sports and cultural events, dinners, the weekend use of a cabin, or other vacation spot, golf outings, gift certificates, and food/liquor gift baskets.

Our 2009 event ushers in the Year of the Ox, a sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work. People born under this sign have a strong desire to get the job done and succeed through perseverance.
