        (ST. LOUIS): Shop two huge plant sales this spring hosted by the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Shaw Nature Reserve. Choose from hundreds of annuals, perennials, tropicals, ferns, orchids, wildflowers and more selected by horticulture experts for use in public displays at both locations. The annual Greenhouse Plant Sale at the Garden will be held Thursday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Just two days later, the annual Spring Wildflower Sale at the Reserve will be held Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to both sales is free.

        The Greenhouse Plant Sale at the Missouri Botanical Garden includes a wide selection of annuals grown by the Garden's horticulture staff, along with dozens of varieties of perennials and many large, unusual stock plants used for propagation. Browse through the greenhouse complex for tropicals, ferns, and interesting woody plants, or select from a variety of orchids and voodoo lilies, also known as dragon lilies or dragon arum. Many plants are offered at or slightly below market rate.

        The Greenhouse Plant Sale will be held on Thursday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enter the greenhouse complex through the west parking lot of the Missouri Botanical Garden at 4344 Shaw Blvd. Entry to the sale is free; regular admission applies to visitors entering the Garden grounds.         The Spring Wildflower Sale at the Shaw Nature Reserve offers the widest array of native plants available in the metro St. Louis area, selected by Reserve horticulture staff and several local nurseries. Browse hundreds of varieties of annual and perennial wildflowers, ferns, trees and shrubs for use in home landscaping and to attract wildlife. Choose from the showiest and hardiest native plants for sun or shade, including purple coneflower, butterfly milkweed, blazing star, dwarf crested iris, cardinal flower, compass plant, wild phlox, ostrich fern, bottlebrush buckeye, fringe tree and short-leaf pine. Don't miss this year's must-have plant, Indian Pink (Spigelia marilandica), which features bright crimson and yellow tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds.

        Participants include the Shaw Nature Reserve, Andy Weiss Native Plants, Forest Keeling Nursery, Hamilton Seeds and Wildflowers, Missouri Wildflowers Nursery, Pan's Garden, Prairie Hill Farm, Whiskey Creek Farm and Yellowood Farm.

        The Spring Wildflower Sale will be held Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Shaw Nature Reserve in Gray Summit, Mo. Take Interstate 44 just past Six Flags to exit #253 and follow the signs to the Reserve and sale. Entry to the sale is free; regular admission applies to visitors exploring the 2,400-acre Reserve. Cash or check only accepted at the sale.
