The George Caleb Bingham Gallery at the University of Missouri-Columbia is presenting a solo exhibition, Qi - The Dynamic Movement of Energy, by MU Art Professor Lampo Leong. This exhibition, which runs from August 10th to September 3rd, 2009 features Dr. Leong's recent wild cursive calligraphy on rice-paper, capturing the Qi - the dynamic movement of energy - of his powerful brush stroke. A few of Leong's abstract acrylic paintings are also included in the exhibition.

Influenced by the ancient Chinese calligraphy wild cursive, Professor Lampo Leong's brushwork is expressive, energetic, and compelling; it reflects a modern and unique approach to calligraphy, reminiscent of paintings in the Abstract Expressionism style. Dr. Leong earned his Ph.D. from the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China, and specializes in the comparative study of painting and calligraphy. Leong has had 58 solo and over 280 group exhibitions worldwide. In 2009 alone, his works have been selected for The Eleventh National Fine Arts Exhibition in China, Shanghai Art Fair 2009, From Nature to Mind: A Joint Exhibition from New Intellectual Artists at the Huantie Times Art Museum in Beijing, Mind of Being at the 798 DAX Art Space in Beijing, Pintura Contemporanea de Macau: Exhibition of the Fine Arts Collection from Macao Art Museum in Macao, XXV Exposicao Colectiva dos Artistas de Macau, Macao, Exposicao Annual de Artes Visuais de Macau in Macao, A Juried Exhibition of the Sumi-e Society of America and Sumi-e Society of Canada in Toronto, Canada, Second International Modern Ink Painting Biennial in National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan, 11th Annual Contemporary Art Juried Online International Art Exhibition inOmaha, Nebraska, New Music Festival at the University of Nebraska, and the Twentieth Annual Missouri Top 50 Exhibition in Sedalia, Missouri.

Leong has also won over 40 awards internationally, including a Gold Medal at the XV Exposicao Coltctiva dos Artistas de Macau, Ten Best Entries at the Exposicao Annual de Artes Visuais de Macau, Best of Show at the 42nd Sumi-e Society of America Juried Exhibition, Diploma of Excellence in Medial 1.Art Biennial at the Art Addiction Medial Museum in London, and the Front Cover Award in New Art International published by Book Art Press in New York, which can be found at Barnes & Noble, Borders, and many other chain, independent, and museum bookstores around the country.

Professor Leong's calligraphy and paintings are highly sought after, and are currently included in more than 15 museum collections as well as many public and corporate collections worldwide, such as the Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Guangdong Museum of Art in China, Walt Disney World in Florida, Cathay Bank in Los Angeles, The Westin Surabaya in Indonesia, and The Tokyo Westin in Japan. Commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission, Leong's 26-foot-diameter granite inset calligraphic medallion is also permanently installed in a San Francisco city park.
