UCityCares Kicks Off Thanksgiving Food Drive
A "Value-Added" Benefit of Local Political Campaign

U City Cares is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Food Drive from October 25th to November 16th, 2009. The food drive is being organized in cooperation with Operation Food Search, a food bank serving the metropolitan area and headquartered in University City. The food drive will be formally kicked-off on Sunday, October 25th at 1:00 p.m. at 1179 McKnight Road. Hot cider and cookies will be served to all those who brave the chilly weather to drop off food during the kick-off event.

UCityCares is sponsored by the Shelley Welsch for Mayor Campaign and organized by the campaign workers. Those workers are putting together a series of community service projects to provide help for University City residents in need and the community in general. "Our volunteers created UCityCares when we recognized that our large campaign office, usable space with lights and heat, could be used for more than election politics," says Welsch. "We are dedicating part of our time to improve University City, and we don't want all that energy to evaporate on Election Day, April, 2010, but want something permanent to come out of this effort."

The Welsch campaign hopes that these service projects will be part of the "leftovers" from the months of shared work - leftovers that will be picked up and become a part of the way University City operates regularly: citizens helping each other and their community, working for a better, stronger more vibrant place to live.

Six food drop-off locations will be situated around the city. Donations can be dropped at:
