UMSL scholar receives Chancellor's Award for Excellence

        Hung-gay Fung, the Dr. Y.S. Tsiang Endowed Professor of Chinese Studies and professor of finance at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research and Creativity today during the State of the University Address at UMSL.

        Fung is a prolific researcher who has been ranked as the 81st most published finance scholar in the last 50 years. The ranking was published in the Journal of Finance Literature in 2005.

        Fung, a resident of Creve Coeur, Mo., is grateful to be acknowledged for his work.

        "I am very happy to receive the award, which is an honor to me," he said. "I appreciate that UMSL has provided me with the environment conducive to my achievement."

        His research focuses on international finance, banking, financial markets and Chinese studies. Fung has published articles in numerous publications, including the Journal of International Finance and Money, Journal of Banking and Finance, Review of Economics and Statistics and Journal of Risk and Insurance.

        Before joining UMSL, Fung taught at the University of Baltimore. He earned a bachelor's degree in finance from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a doctoral degree in finance from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

        Each year, UMSL recognizes recipients of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence. Awards are given to faculty who have made outstanding accomplishments in teaching, research or community service.
