【時報訊】中國駐美大使周文重夫婦12月10日(週四)晚間，在美國華府中國大使館內舉行「中國空港」(Midwest-China Hub)接待晚宴，表彰中國空港委員會及中美雙方對這項計劃之努力。應邀出席貴賓有密蘇里州美國國會兩位參議員Kit Bond, Claire McCaskill，眾議員Todd Akin，Russ Carnahan，Lacy Clay，Blaine Leutkemeyer，聖喬爾斯郡長Steve Ehlmann，中國空港委員會主席Mike Jones， 聖路易世貿中心主任Tim Nowak及參與中國空港計劃之工商之誠意工業界代表近三十餘人，周文重大使在餐會中表彰美中西區中國空港委員會，並展現中國繼續承諾發展聖路易商業貨運空港之誠意。
未克出席之聖路易郡郡長Charlie Dooley表示，這是一個將中國與聖路易緊密結合的最佳機會，他特別向參議員Kit Bond, Claire McCaskill及州長Jay Nixon之強力支持表達謝意，中國空港將對聖路易地區經濟發展作出重大貢獻。
美中西區中國空港委員會主席Mike Jones在晚宴會場表示，周文重大使的邀宴將這個中國空港計劃再向前推進一步。不但出席晚宴，中國空港委員會成員同時利用在華府訪問之際會參加了多項會議，包括美國商務部所做的一項美中貿易簡要說明會。
美中西區中國空港委員會係於2009年1月26日(當天是2009年中國農曆新年)，在周文重大使、參議員Kit Bond聯合見證下，正式成立中國空港委員會，會長由聖路易郡首席政策顧問Mike Jones擔任，兩位副會長分別由RCGA 會長Richard Fleming及密蘇里工商協會會長Daniel Mehan擔任。委員會成員包括密州、聖路易郡、聖路易市三個政府機關相關組織，私人工商企業單位，聖路易地區經濟發展協會，聖路易世貿中心，非營利之密州合作公司，密州工商協會及聖路易郡經濟委員會等組成。由於中國空港委員會的成立，中國空港計劃得以加快腳步，具體落實推動。
密蘇里州及聖路易地區政、經各界領袖及相關人士於2007年即開始積極推動中國空港計劃，2008年2月19日，周文重大使伉儷首次訪問聖路易，三月間密州則組成為數26人之龐大代表團，由兩位參議員Bond, McCaskill領軍，首次訪問中國大陸，為期一周，簽署兩項合作備忘錄，展開密州與中國友好關係上歷史之一大步。
2008年4月25日，中國前外交部長，現任全國人大外事委員會主任委員李肇星翩然來訪聖市兩天，會見密州美國參議員Bond, McCaskill，密州議會議長Ron Richard，聖路易市市長Francis Slay，郡長Charlie Dooley等政要及工商代表、僑界人士，26日下午李肇星主委並在聖市密蘇里植物園手植一株中國栗子樹(Chinese Chestnut，)鞏固中美情誼，預祝中國空港計劃成功。
2008年6月15日，中國副總理王歧山親率百人代表團,自中國專機直飛聖路易訪問三天，簽署了總值53.2億美元之五大合作項目。王歧山副總理在訪問中指出，美國是最大的發展國家，中國是最大的發展中國家，中美兩國在人民和政府各方面都能相互合作，相互信任，在經貿、文化、教育、社會等方面互助互補，攜手合作。王歧山副總理祝願這一切都由密蘇里州作起點。王歧山副總理是有史以來，由中國到聖路易訪問之中國官員最高階層。
2009年一月中國空港委員會成立後，隨即於三月間組團訪問中國大陸一週，並在北京成立中國空港北京辦事處，地址就設在北京「倫敦出口公司」(London Export Corporation)建築物內。成立辦事處是此行訪問中國重大收獲。
2009年5月2日，為落實中國空港(China Hub)大設想，推動中美經貿合作、中國商務部投資促進局副局長張迎新女士率38人企業家代表團，飛抵聖路易訪問三天，訪問期間會見了密蘇里州、聖路易市、郡政府各級政要，4日並在下榻之克雷登市麗晶大旅館舉行與美方企業代表商務會談。密州州長Jay Nixon，密州州議會議長Ron Richard，中國空港委員會主席Mike Jones等均與張副局長及代表團成員會面。三日晚間七時半，聖路易中國空港委員會在聖市城區四季大旅館六樓宴會廳，為代表團舉行盛大歡迎晚宴。美國眾議員Russ Carnahan、副州長Peter Kinder，議長Ron Richard，多位州議員、美國商務部聖路易地區主任Cory Simek，RCGA會長Richard Fleming，世界貿易中心主任Tim Nowak等政要及企業代表近一百五十餘人與會。
事實上，聖路易推動中國空港計劃已超過三年的時間，中美雙方互訪超過六次，為這個計劃打下良好基礎，中美雙方共同為這個前所未有的大設想而持續努力。
U.S. Chinese Ambassador Honors Midwest-China Hub Commission
ST. LOUIS, MO, December 9, 2009 - Chinese Ambassador to the United States Zhou Wenzhong has invited the Midwest-China Hub Commission to attend a special dinner December 10 at the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. United States Sens. Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill along with Governor Jay Nixon also will attend the dinner. Other guests include Congressmen Todd Akin, Russ Carnahan, Lacy Clay, and Blaine Leutkemeyer, St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann and area labor and business leaders.
Ambassador Zhou is honoring the Midwest-China Hub Commission to demonstrate China's continued commitment to the development of a St. Louis commercial air cargo hub.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for us to continue to cement our ties with China. I am especially thankful for Sens. Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill and Governor Nixon's strong support in this important economic development effort for our region," said St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley.
For nearly a year, the Midwest-China Hub Commission has been actively working with government leaders and the Chinese to generate interest and ultimately create a Midwest-China air cargo hub. Highlights include: Ambassador Zhou's multiple visits to St. Louis in 2008 and 2009 to discuss the project; Commission delegation traveling to Beijing in 2008 and 2009 to strengthen relationships with the Chinese; and separate visits to St. Louis from Minister Li Zhaoxing in 2008 and Vice Premier Wang Qishan in 2008.
"Our relationship with Chinese officials is continually getting stronger and stronger, and we are making significant strides toward the formation of a new Midwestern trade route," said Chairman of the Midwest-China Hub Commission Mike Jones. "The invitation by Ambassador Zhou brings us another step closer to reaching our goals."
While in Washington, D.C., the Midwest-China Hub Commission also will attend various meetings including a briefing from the U.S. Department of Commerce on the administration's views on trade with China.
About the Midwest-China Hub CommissionEstablished in 2008, the Midwest-China Hub Commission is a public/private entity and comprised of state and local government and business leaders working in partnership with China to coordinate efforts to make St. Louis an air cargo hub for China's Midwest trade.
