The massive two-year rebuilding project that shut down sections of Interstate 64 through the St. Louis area did not significantly hurt businesses along the route. At least that's the finding of a survey announced by the Missouri Department of Transportation, which was responsible for the project. Tom Ryan of HDR Consulting, which did the survey, told KMOX Radio that there was not much difference in the performance of businesses near the interstate and those elsewhere in the region. While some business operators said they had problems, it appeared to be related more to the economic downturn than the highway shutdown. |
