【時報訊】曾參展聖路易第十八屆國際電影節，首映場全滿之電影「被出賣的台灣」(Formosa Retrayed)現正在聖路易AMC 12院線上映中。四月十八日(週日)下午，該片製片，曾在電影節來過聖市之刁毓能(Will Tiao)再度在聖市AMC 12戲院與現場觀眾舉行兩場座談，討論電影拍攝動機、經過和拍片心聲並接受觀眾提問。
「被出賣的台灣」是好萊塢第一部以台灣白色恐怖時代為背景的電影。製片兼演員的刁毓能首先介紹自己是台灣高雄人，並細數台灣的「坎坷」歷史─從葡萄牙人命名為「福爾摩沙（Formosa）」（即美麗的島嶼）、荷蘭人佔領、被鄭成功趕走、在《馬關條約》中被割讓給日本，再依《開羅宣言》在二次大戰後歸為中國。但他提到《舊金山和平條約》中，日本人只是放棄「台灣」，並未規定給誰，點出他對台灣的政治取向。
接著刁毓能繼續談1947年謝雪紅因賣香煙引發了228事件，導致兩至三萬台灣人被殺。後來蔣介石因與毛澤東內戰失敗，退守台灣並實施近四十年的戒嚴時期。其子蔣經國曾留俄，加入過共產黨，並將特務系統帶回國。如早年的「校園特務」是由政府出資，讓特務混在學生中，專門收集異義份子資料，列入黑名單。這些人就會受到被監視搔擾，甚至被捕坐牢或遭暗殺。
「被出賣的台灣」以一名美國FBI探員調查前美國卡內基美隆大學教授陳文成命案開始，發現該教授曾被特務學生所監控。幹員藉著受害者妻子所提供的線索，以及一位台灣間諜之助遠赴台灣緝兇，才發現原來這樁命案其實是政治陰謀的一部份，還牽扯上美國國務院、中國黑幫組織和台灣當局……。
為了希望讓全球知道台灣人追求民主自由的過程，曾在白宮擔任助理的刁毓能放棄國際政治，轉戰大螢幕。並奔走募款，籌到600萬美元。
該片從2008年四月開始在泰國進行拍攝。選擇泰國的原因有三：（一）由於台灣變遷很大，已找不到當時的景象。（二）節省經費，因台灣物價高。（三）政黨輪替的因素（國民黨重新執政）。
「被出賣的台灣」一片由肯恩（Adam Kane）導演，演員詹姆司范得畢克（James Van Der Beek）擔任男主角。刁毓能並為此成立美國福爾摩沙電影公司，主要以拍攝台灣故事為電影題材。
有趣的是1964年，美國前外交官柯爾（George H. Kerr）曾撰寫「被出賣的台灣」一書，後由旅美學者陳榮成於1991年出版中譯本，如今卻因此電影而使得該書暢銷。

About FORMOSA BETRAYED Producer/Co-Star Will TiaoWill Tiao is a former White House negotiator on international trade agreements, who has also lobbied aggressively for Taiwan's entrance into the United Nations. In 2002, Tiao left his position with the U.S. government to pursue an acting career. After co-starring in a number of plays and television shows, Tiao decided to combine his passions for politics and film.
