Festival U. City June 19th

Festival U. City, a full day of outdoor family fun and games, with FREE art activities and music will take place on Saturday, June 19th at Heman Park in University City. Sponsored by a consortium of eight University City civic organizations including the Parks Foundation, the Arts & Letters Commission, and Craft Alliance; Festival U. City will kick off at 8:00 a.m. with a 5K run "Splash and Dash" via a course that ends with a dip in the waters of the Centennial Commons Pool.

Between 11:00 and 6:00, a variety of participatory athletic games will commence on the Heman Park playing- fields, a juried art fair will be open for browsing, or festival-goers can choose to don aprons and experience painting collaboratively on 80 feet of double-sided easels-one of the many free creative activities to chose from under the towering shade trees of "ART U."

On the park's main stage, live bands will strike up at 11:00 a.m. and culminate at 8:30 p.m. with a free evening performance by "Power Play." The stage will also host impromptu all-acoustic participatory jam sessions conducted by renowned local musician Dina Davenport. Plus, whimsically-decorated pianos, such as the ones pictured below, will be stationed around the park for spontaneous free play throughout the day. (Designed by local artists, each piano will be available for purchase via silent auction with proceeds to benefit the free public art mission of the U. City Municipal Commission on Arts and Letters.)
