The Asian Basketball Association of St. Louis held 2nd tournament of the year, the ABA Summer Showdown

Saturday, August 14th, 2010 - The Asian Basketball Association of St. Louis (ABA of STL) held their 2nd tournament of the year, the ABA Summer Showdown. Building on the success of the Spring tournament, this one had 5 teams total, 4 local teams, and 1 team that drove in from Kansan City, Missouri. The format was double elimination, so it was an all day tournament starting at 9:00am and continuing until 6:00pm that night. And that's not counting the numerous "after-parties" later that evening!
But that's definitely what the ABA of STL is all about. It's about bringing people together, of all races, not just asian, and share our love for hoops. The official mission of the organization is:
1.To brings unity among Asian-Americans through the game of basketball and through an organized basketball league regardless of playing experience.2.To educate American born Asians about Asian heritage.3.To share our culture with our adoptive and extended family and friends in the United States.4.To educate our members about the game of basketball.5.To provide and encourage exercise for overall physical health
This tournament definitely embodied that mission statement. The goal of the organization is to continue to grow it's member base. In terms of events, we have the following available to anyone interested:
- Open Gym every Saturday at the Fenton Riverchase. The entrance fee is $7.00.- Seasonal Tournaments (Spring and Summer Showdown, 2010)- An "unofficial" official ABA league at the Lodge in Des Peres every Tuesday nights. (3 of the 4 teams in the league have ABA ties)
