The Boeing Co. has donated $5 million to the Saint Louis Science Center. Science Center officials said a portion of the gift will be used to finance the center's $9.5 million, 13,000-square-foot exhibition hall, which is already under construction.
The rest of the money will go toward the institution's educational programs and initiatives, including the expansion of programs such as Youth Exploring Science and plans for more modern, interactive exhibits about critical topics such as energy, climate change, the life sciences and flight.
"We view this gift to the Saint Louis Science Center as an investment in the future of science and technology, because it will help the institution better serve and educate its visitors, advancing the region's science literacy and building the skilled workforce of the future," said Dennis Muilenburg, president and CEO of Boeing's St. Louis-based Defense, Space & Security unit.
Saint Louis Science Center President and CEO Douglas King plans to leave to become president and CEO of the Museum of Flight in Seattle on Jan. 1.
