CEO King to leave Saint Louis Science Center

        President and CEO Douglas King plans to leave the Saint Louis Science Center to become president and CEO of the Museum of Flight in Seattle on Jan. 1.

        King, 63, has served as president and CEO of the Science Center since 1995. During that time, the museum has had an average of 1.2 million visitors a year and reached more than 350,000 students annually through education programs.

        "Under Doug's leadership the Saint Louis Science Center has grown to become the fourth-largest science museum in the country," said Ted Hellman, chairman of the Science Center Board of Commissioners.

        The science center said it would conduct a national search for its new leader, starting with the formation of a national search advisory council.

        King's salary is $367,574.

        The science center is growing. It plans to add a 13,000-square-foot, $9.5 million exhibition hall adjacent to its main entrance off Oakland Avenue. The new space will replace the existing Exploradome, which is nearing the end of its lifespan and needs to be replaced.ellman, chairman of the Science Center Board of Commissioners.
