St. Louis Language Immersion Schools (SLLIS) mission is to position all children for success in local and global economies through holistic, intellectually-inspiring language immersion programs. Its expansion to begin The Chinese School and The Japanese School are perfectly aligned with their mission and will provide even greater opportunities for families in St. Louis region to gain a world-class education.
This year SLLIS have begun the research and planning for the opening of The Chinese School and The Japanese School. Both schools are planned to open with kindergarten and first grade in 2012. Like The French School and The Spanish School, they will open in a shared facility until they have a large enough school population to support a single building.
In December Rhonda Broussard, director of SLLIS, had the honor to participate in the Chinese Bridge to American Schools delegation in Beijing, China. The Hanban Office and Confucius Institute select this annual delegation of educational institutions that offer or will soon begin Mandarin language programs from preschool through the university level. In the Guangxi province they visited a primary, middle, high school and university campus. Each school was delightfully welcoming and excited to give their students an opportunity to speak English with native speakers. SLLIS will apply to Hanban/Confucius Institute to host and official Confucius Classroom in The Chinese School and create additional partnership and exchange opportunities for students and staff.
If you are interested in learning more about these two schools, potentially enrolling your children, becoming a community advocate, help with marketing and fundraising, The School Project Group for The Chinese School and The Japanese School will hold it’s first meeting Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 at 6:00 pm. The meeting will be held at SLLIS, 4011 Papin Street, St. Louis, MO 63110.
