The St Louis Classical Guitar Society is pleased to present the phenomenal Beijing Guitar Duo in concert, January 21 at 8:00 pm at the Ethical Society! Their program will include "The Bridge of the Birds," and two movements from "Eight Memories in Watercolor" by Tan Dun. We hope that you will attend the concert and join us afterwards in the lobby to meet these remarkable performers.
The young Chinese guitarists Meng Su and Yameng Wang first met at the Central Conservatory in Beijing, China, where they both studied with acclaimed professor Chen Zhi. The Duo was formally established at the encouragement of their teacher Manuel Barrueco while pursuing advanced studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. As recipients of the "Solomon H. Snyder Award," the Beijing Guitar Duo made its New York debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall to great acclaim. Recipients of numerous awards as solo artists, their individual talents joined create one of the most exciting guitar duos on the scene today. Before graduating from the Central Conservatory in2006, Meng Su had already won the 5th Vienna Youth Guitar Competition, the48th Tokyo International Guitar Competition, and the Christopher Parkening Young Guitarist Competition. Yameng Wang became the youngest winner of the Tokyo Guitar Competition at the age of 12, and went on to win Second Prize in the "Michele Pittaluga" International Guitar Competition in Italy at the age of 13.
