Former Gov. Bob Holden speaks at a Lebanon Rotary Club meeting on April 19, 2012 about building relationships between the United States and China. Holden is the chairman of the Midwest US-China Association.
Former Gov. Bob Holden believes the economic future of Missouri and the surrounding Midwestern states depends on forming relationships with China.

"You no longer simply look at the competition down the interstate or across the state line. In 2012, you must be mindful of the international competition, current fluctuation, innovation and pricing around the globe. Whether you like it or not, this is the reality of our situation and our success will be determined by those willing to embrace this new paradigm and retool so that we can compete in this new global economy," Holden said to Lebanon Rotarians at their weekly meeting on Thursday April 19, 2012.

Holden, who was the governor of Missouri from 2001 to 2005, is now the chairman of the Midwest US-China Association, a coalition of 12 Midwestern states that joined together in an effort to encourage commerce between the region and the People's Republic of China.
