USDA employees at St. Louis's Goodfellow
campus held their 6th annual Diversity Day celebration on August 23. The program
commenced with welcoming remarks by Peggy Stroud of the OCIO's office and
opening remarks by RD's Director of Civil Rights Courtney Wilkerson. Washington, D.C. was represented by Gail Lacey, Brittany Goodman and Torrie Mitchell of O&M. About 30 vendors participated and displayed cultural handicrafts, demonstrated their artistic work and had an array of authentic items for purchase.
Staff from St. Louis's Chinese American News were invited and participated this year. They provided a demonstration on Chinese culture, cultural relics and introduced local people of Chinese de-scent who have contributed to the community. EEOAC Chairperson Christina Hill presented a certificate of appreciation to the Director of the St. Louis Chinese American News, Mrs. May Wu, to thank her for participating in the 2012 Diversity Day event.
Activities included storytelling and dances from a variety of cultures. Four food vendors provided authentic American, Mexican, Jamaican and Italian cuisines for Diversity Day.
