Officials open the Yangtze-Mississippi Conference in Wuhan China in October. Officials from the Tri-City Regional Port District and Wuhan New Port signed a cooperative agreement at the conference.
An agreement made in November between the port district of central China and Madison County could pave the way for new businesses and trade opportunities for both regions.

The Tri-City Regional Port District's America Central Port property in Granite City is partnering with the Wuhan New Port in central China, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The partnership will also allow China to learn more sustainable practices at its Wuhan facility.

According to figures from the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Illinois reported $26.9 billion in total trade with China in 2011. Illinois exported $3.9 billion worth of goods and imported $23 billion in Chinese goods.
