(January 4, 2013) As Mayor Francis Slay said during the St. Louis Business Journal's State of St. Louis event this morning, and later reiterated on Twitter, "We will sink or swim as a region."
He said that in front of an audience of almost 400 people at the Reniassance Grand Hotel and alongside St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann, Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones (state rep for St. Louis and Franklin counties), and St. Clair County Chairman Mark Kern.
"Cooperation" and "working together" were common themes during the event, as each speaker discussed issues and initiatives that were only possible with the support of their surrounding community, state and region.
Specific topics, like the China Hub project or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and broad issues such as job creation and infrastructure (especially across state lines) can only be implemented with local leaders working with each other, the panel said.
