February 11, 2013 - The Diversity Awareness Partnership is announcing its new diversity art competition for grades K-12 themed "Diverse City: Embracing Differences in Your City," and is accepting applications through April 5.

The competition will invite students from the St. Louis metro area to submit independent artwork, featuring representations of a diverse city, to encourage personal awareness and understanding of diversity in their schools and communities. The competition also aims to promote creativity, innovation, and critical thinking for a global age. Artworks will be accepted in forms including watercolors, oils, pastels, pen and ink, charcoal, photography, two dimensional, mixed media, computer-generated, and digital pieces. Applicant categories are divided into grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, & 9-12.

The first place winner in each category will receive a gift certificate valued at one-hundred dollars to Craft Alliance and a seventy-five dollar visa gift card. Second place awards include a voucher for one class at Center of Creative Arts (COCA) and a fifty-dollar visa gift card, and prizes awarded to third place winners will be a one-year family membership to the Saint Louis Art Museum and a twenty-five dollar visa gift card. A panel of judges will evaluate entries on the basis of theme interpretation, composition, and originality, and winners will be named and awarded at a ceremony in May.

The Diversity Art Competition, formerly a Multicultural Task Force Program, was adopted by the Diversity Awareness Partnership in December 2012. The Multicultural Task force held the program annually since 1996 before retiring the organization in 2013. Former Multicultural Task Force leadership will be involved in planning and implementing the new Diversity Arts Competition.
