ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - St. Louis could be one step closer to hosting the 2016 Olympic swimming trials.
On Wednesday, members of the St. Louis Sports Commission made their final pitch to representatives from USA Swimming.
St. Louis was named a finalist last month, and decision-makers visited the Edward Jones Dome on Wednesday.
If St. Louis is chosen, the dome would be transformed into swimming's centerpiece and could play host to superstars like Missy Franklin and Ryan Lochte.
The St. Louis Sports Commission's president says this is a big deal.
"It's a huge event for St. Louis. It's eight nights and eight nights of national TV. It's a $40 million economic impact. We would have 200,000 fans attend the event and it just ties in so beautifully with our region's Olympic legacy and it's such an exciting event," said President Frank Viverito.
Other cities in the running include Indianapolis, San Antonio and Omaha, which has hosted the last two swimming trials.
