WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) met this week with students and faculty members from Washington University's McDonnell International Scholars Program in St. Louis, Mo. During the meeting, Blunt addressed students' questions regarding a variety of issues, including ways to encourage economic opportunity and compete in an increasingly global economy.
"As a former teacher and university president, I understand the value of a high-quality education for every student," said Blunt. "I enjoyed meeting with the students and faculty from Washington University's McDonnell International Scholars Program and discussing ways that we can increase economic opportunities for future generations."
Washington University's Chancellor, Mark Wrighton, joined the 25 students, who came from the United States, Brazil, Chile, China, Hungary, India, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.
Before serving in Congress, Senator Blunt was a high school and college history teacher, and he served for four years as the president of his alma mater, Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. Blunt currently serves as a member of the Senate Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation and Export Promotion. |
