The annual Holy Convocation of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) brought some 35,000 attendees to St. Louis in November last year.
The Church of God in Christ (COGIC) plans to hold its annual convocation, which brought about 35,000 members here last fall, in St. Louis for three more years.

The church, the nation's largest African-American Pentecostal denomination, has held its Holy Convocation in St. Louis each November since 2010, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Church officials said Monday that they've agreed to hold the event at America's Center each fall through 2016.

Many downtown hotels already are sold out for this November's event, the newspaper reports.

The event had been held in COGIC's headquarters city of Memphis, Tenn., for more than a century before outgrowing facilities there. St. Louis won the business with better hotel rates and other incentives.

Bishop Lawrence Wooten, pastor of Williams Temple Church in north St. Louis and a COGIC General Board member, said convocation attendees have spent an estimated $105 million in St. Louis over the last three years, the Post-Dispatch reports.
