Missouri's Tess Mandoli named third-runner-up at Miss America's Outstanding Teen competition

        Tess Mandoli, a 16-year-old student from Creve Coeur, was named the third-runner-up, and also won a preliminary award in the national Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant in Orlando, Florida. 52 Girls competed for the Title of Miss America's Outstanding Teen - all winners of their state, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico.

        Tess, who was crowned on the Miss Missouri stage June 8 and represented the state in the sister program to the Miss America Organization.

        She earned a $5,000 college scholarships for placing third in the pageant, and earned an additional $500 scholarship for winning the Lifestyle and Fitness in Active Wear award in preliminary competition.

        "We are very proud of Tess," executive director of the Miss Missouri's Outstanding Teen (MMOT) pageant Brendan Webber, said. "She did a great job performing on stage and representing our state at the national pageant."

        Miss America's Outstanding Teen promotes scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America's teens.

        The national platform of the Miss America Organization, Children's Miracle Network (CMN), is also the national platform of the teen program. Mandoli serves as the teen goodwill ambassador for CMN in Missouri.

        Mandoli is a volunteer for several local organizations, including the International Institute of St. Louis, the National Charity League, and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. Her own platform is "National Diversity Alliance," which has a website at http://www.nationaldiversityalliance.org .

        At the national pageant in Orlando, Mandoli performed Schubert's Impromtu, Opus 90, No 2.

        Mandoli, daughter of Dan and Ming Shao Mandoli, attends Mary Institute and Country Day School (MICDS). Her local pageant was Metro St. Louis, directed by Mary Ann Owens.

        On Sept. 10, Mandoli will leave for Atlantic City to support Miss Missouri Shelby Ringdahl as she vies for the Miss America crown.
