Nearly 1,300 business, civic, government, higher education and other leaders brought their many passions to the masterfully restored Peabody Opera House at the St. Louis Regional Chamber's 177th Annual Event on July 24, 2014. Presented by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, this year's event focused on how together, the St. Louis region can champion a better tomorrow through community leadership on three priorities: Education Attainment, Inclusion and Talent Attraction, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

"These three priorities are critical to the success of our region and to our company, said Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals CEO Mark Trudeau. We are proud to have started in St. Louis, and we are proud to be growing in St. Louis. We look forward to helping shape the future of our region."

        Highlights from Annual Event 177:

Frankie Muse Freeman received the 2014 Right Arm of St. Louis Award, presented by Psychological Associates. The Right of Arm of St. Louis, the Regional Chamber's most prestigious award presented to an individual, honors leaders who make outstanding contributions to the St. Louis region. Ms. Freeman was recognized for a lifetime of fighting for equality and for her efforts to improve public education. Previous winners have include Jack Buck, Senator Jack Danforth and Dr. William Danforth, Jack and Andy Taylor and Dr. Blanche Touhill.

Suzanne Sitherwood, President and CEO of The Laclede Group, was honored as Chair-Elect of the St. Louis Regional Chamber.

The St. Louis Regional Chamber committed $150,000 over three years to Prosper Capital to help fund a new start-up accelerator for women-led, early-stage companies. Prosper Capital was established by Prosper, a St. Louis organization looking to close the gender gap among entrepreneurs, and this commitment was the fund's first investment.

The Chamber made a $1 million capital commitment to Accelerate St. Louis to support equity funding for early-stage companies, including $700,000 towards the creation of a venture capital sidecar fund to assist early-stage companies in the region.

Six graduates of the St. Louis Regional Chamber's Fellows Program shared their passion for St. Louis. The Fellows program is the region's premier leadership program addressing the interests and challenges of professionals of color as they work to develop and advance their careers.

Ed Bryant was recognized as the new CEO of the St. Louis Minority Business Council, the second graduate of the Fellows program to become a CEO. Pat Coleman, now CEO of Behavioral Health Response, was the first graduate to achieve this rank. The Chamber and the Council will collaboratively launch a new supplier diversity product in 2014 to increase opportunities for minority-owned businesses in the regional supply chain.

The Chamber launched Degrees That Work STL, an innovative new toolkit that offers solutions and best practices to help businesses assist their employees in their quest for degree completion. More than 100 working adults pursuing college degrees were honored at the event.

The Annual Event 177 audience enjoyed the premier of the "What Is The Spirit of St. Louis?" video. This video featured many well-known St. Louis leaders.

A lively, contemporary rendition of the St. Louis Blues, sponsored by the Peabody Opera House and the St. Louis Blues hockey club, rocked the House in tribute to the song's 100th anniversary. Jeff Babinski, Vice President and General Manager of Lumi癡re Place Casino & Hotels and board member of the National Blues Museum introduced the guest artists who performed the song: Kim Fuller, Shirley King, Peter Martin, Nick Moss and Theo Peoples. St. Louis will be home to the National Blues Museum opening in 2015.

A reception honoring the region's new CEOs was sponsored by the The Laclede Group, and the Event Networking Reception was sponsored by Lawrence Group.

Creative food, drink and interactive desserts designed by Chef Casey Shiller, of the St. Louis Community College Culinary Arts program and two-time winner of Food Network's Cupcake Wars. The Exclusive Reception Sponsor was Lumi're Place Casino & Hotels and Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis.
