WASHINGTON, D.C. - OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates, a national membership-driven organization dedicated to advancing the political, social, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs), opens applications for its Winter 2015 Internship Program.

To commemorate the 26th anniversary of the OCA Internship Program, OCA invites students from across the nation to apply for its winter cohort. Previously, the OCA internship had been limited to spring, summer, and fall cohorts.

"OCA has built a leadership and advocacy pipeline for young Asian Pacific Americans through our internship programs for 26 years," said Ken Lee, OCA National Acting Chief Executive Officer. "As our program grew, we recognized the need to provide opportunities to young adults throughout the year. This coming cohort is another milestone in the success of our program and an affirmation of our organization’s dedication to the development of our community in advocacy and leadership across all professional sectors."

OCA internships are full-time positions. Accepted applicants are placed in variety of positions in federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, congressional offices, and in public affairs units of corporations in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Placements are based on individual backgrounds, interests, and skill levels. Alumni of the OCA internship program have often become employed in social justice and civil rights organizations, Fortune 500 corporations, and government agencies.

"Over the course of ten weeks, our interns gain unique and valuable experiences that enhance their skill set in any work environment. Through this program, young Asian Pacific American advocates learn how to become leaders in their community by building upon their current strengths; learning new areas of expertise; and cultivating strong personal and professional relationships," said Sharon M. Wong, OCA National President. "Our intern alumni also give back to their communities and have gone on to do amazing things in both the public and private sectors, some have even run for local and state offices."

Candidates should be recent graduates, juniors, seniors from two-year and four-year institutions. Interns are provided a living stipend of $2,500 for the ten week program. The Winter Internship program will begin on January 5th, 2015 and run through March 13th, 2015. All applicants must be able to work between 34-40 hours per week and be present for the duration of the 10-week program.
