It is a blessing to be involved in something that has long lasting effect on people¡¦s life and a witness to personally experience the growth of a people. I started to serve in Chinese Culture Education and Services (CCES) as early as 1997 by invitation from Drs. Leo and Grace Lo. Both of them were passionate about making a difference in the area of fostering Chinese culture and heritage to harness understanding and intrinsic values of diversity. When you have strong leaders, serving under their wings was easy and enjoyable.

The annual Chinese Culture Days (CCD) is a city wide event that excites the entire St. Louis region with both the St. Louis City Mayor and St. Louis County Executive making proclamations to designate the weekend as Chinese Culture Days. From its inception as a Chinese New Year celebration, planned by a dozen or so people, to a regional event that had been attended by 10,000 people in one weekend and supported by five hundred strong volunteers, Chinese Culture Days have become one of signature events in St. Louis.

I am mindful of the pioneers who, in spite of being insignificant in number, devoted their time and financial resources to pave the ways for the CCD success today.

I am mindful of our main partner, the Missouri Botanical Garden, for providing the best venue possible for the Chinese culture to be decorated and showcased in the jewel of St. Louis.

I am particularly mindful of our relentless volunteers who embrace the mission of fostering Chinese culture as their own by donating countless hours for a weekend of excellent pageantry of Chinese culture.

I am writing this message with an abiding faith in the CCES Board and an audacious faith in the future of Chinese community in St. Louis. Our future as a people will be bright as we lead, sacrifice, innovate, and participate in the American cultural evolution.

On behalf of the CCES Board, I am announcing a Volunteer Appreciation Night is being planned to thank our volunteers, partners, supporters for an evening of celebration and fun. Many of your will receive invitations to attend this event free of charge on Saturday, April 4, from 6:00 - 9:30. New Shanghai Circus, the professional acrobatic troupe from Branson, MO, will perform their gravity defied feats of skills and gracefulness that evening.

Every time I take a flight, I am always reminded of the many people who make a successful journey possible - the known pilots, flight crew, and the unknown ground crew. You might have known some of the faces of CCES, but to the hundreds of unknown volunteers we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. See you all in 2016 Chinese Culture Days.
