St. Louis, Missouri (May 21, 2015)—The Gateway Korea Foundation will host its second annual "Dano" festival on June 19 and 20 in St. Louis. Dano (also called Surit-nal) is a traditional Korean holiday celebrating the end of sowing season. Dating from ancient Korea, this is a day of spiritual rites, and celebrations with song, dance and wine.
The holiday always falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar Korean calendar. "We will use the event to celebrate the rich and unique culture of Korea," said Young-Hie Nahm Kromm, one of the founders of the Gateway Korea Foundation, and an architect at Kromm, Rikimaru and Johansen, Inc. The Foundation was formed in 2012 to nurture a greater understanding and appreciation for Korean culture.
