May 21, 2015, St. Louis—There is a new, $4.2 million aquatic center making a big splash in North St. Louis County. The North County Recreational Complex at 2577 Redman Road is home to the newest aquatic center in the area.

The pool officially opens for the 2015 summer season, May 23.

The aquatic center, which complements the existing recreational complex, includes three pool areas: leisure pool, children's pool and lazy river. Three water slides, an interactive play structure, water basketball and volleyball, and three lap lanes complete the new community gathering space.

"We want residents to know that we are here to serve them, first and foremost," said St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger. "It's important that kids and their families have safe, affordable places to gather and play. This is about investing in the community and making it a better place to live."

The new aquatic center replaces an aging Olympic-size pool, which was shuttered nearly four years ago after an irreparable leak.

Construction of the pool was funded through the sale of St. Louis County bonds, which were backed by St. Louis County Port Authority. St. Louis County Parks will operate the pool.

"The new North County pool is so much more than a body of water. It has precious community value," said Sheila Sweeney, chairperson of the Port Authority. "We all remember our community pool from childhood, and now, we are giving future generations the opportunity for similar experiences."

"Offering places where people can make memories with their families and neighbors is incredibly important to the vibrancy of a neighborhood," said St. Louis County Councilman Mike O'Mara (District 4). "This facility brings a much-needed place for health, fun and civic pride."

Additional partners include: ICS Construction (general contractor), Hastings+Chivetta (architect), Counsilman-Hunsaker (pool consultant) and Westport Pools (pool sub-contractor).

The aquatic center will be open to the public from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends. For more details, visit stlouisco.com/parks or the Facebook page.
